Life of Kaikeyi and its Influence on Our Daily Lives, Nik Nikam

Kaikeyi  had an interesting life, growing up with seven brothers. Her mother was abandoned by her father.  In fact, when Dashrath married kaikeyi, Dashrath had promised her and her father that their son would be the next king as Kausalya did not have child. Though she was a great warrior, she had insecurities in her life and lack of self confidence, which made her distrust men, including her husband. She was very easily influenced by her maid Mantra.  However, she played a pivotal role in Ramayan, though not a popular one.  It raises many questions regarding promises, self desire, disregard for one’s one future.

Glory of Lord Hanuman, Ram Mallik

There are variant accounts of Lord Hanuman’s birth, birth place and parentage. He has been mentioned as the son of Lord Shiva, Keshari, and the Wind God. Similarly his birth place is mentioned in different places such as present day Bihar, Karnataka etc. Lord Hanuman has been uniformly described as a man of great learning and wisdom but depicted by some as a monkey with a tail. All Ramayanas however agree on one point. His great achievements and evolution as made him the most fascinating and popular God of Hindus. This talk presents a brief narration and discussion on the life and adventurous glory of Lord Hanuman.

The Sacred Ram Setu – Last Remaining Hotspot of Biodiversity, Kusum Vyas

The Gulf of Mannar is the site of the famous Ram Setu, or Adam’s Bridge, which according to Hindu scriptures (the Ramayana) was created by Lord Rama in order to rescue his wife, Sita. The Bridge also features in later Islamic narratives. The Ramayana, like the centuries old Vedas, Upanishads and Vedanta is replete with spiritual and poetic references to Mother Earth where the environment is alive and teems with life, where trees, mountains and rocks become shrines and the river is respected as a source and support of physical and spiritual life. The concepts of ecology and environmental protection are not modern phenomena to Hindus. Thousands of years ago, Hindu sages realized that preservation of the environment and ecological balance was necessary for the survival of mankind. In a world in which climate change and environmental destruction are threatening our survival, Ram Setu demonstrates a deep ecological awareness and great respect for the natural environment.  Ram Setu's historical antiquity goes back several millennia. Marine archaeological research is demonstrating the existence of a great number of drowned cities and temples, suggesting that these waters overlie the lost land of Kumari Kandam, the source of much of the literary and spiritual origins of the people of the region. A proposed Ship Channel Project poses an urgent and unprecedented threat to the ecologically fragile and religiously significant region which is home to several pilgrimage sites.

Sabri's Lila, Umesh Bhatia

Sabri Mata was one of the great devotees of Lord Ram. We'll discuss her strong faith or nistha towards her Guru.  She spent her entire life in sadhana bhakti with strong conviction that one day Lord Ram along with Lakshman would definitely give her darshan. What is Prem- Lessons from Bharat Milap Lila!, Vimla Agrawal

Thru the Bharat-milap pastime of Lord Ram, Ramayana is teaching us what is Prem, pure love and devotion for Bhagwan. It is completely unconditional, spontaneous and devoid of all selfish desires. The Prem is trance dental and only focused for the happiness and service of the beloved. When Bharat Maharaj promised to bring Lord Ramachandra back to Kingdom, he was thinking of himself only. He never thought what Ram wants. Janak Maharaj ji's teaching taught him that if he truly loves Ram, then he should ask What Ram wants and follow accordingly.
